Clinics - PS (Staff) - Spanning across the St. Paul area, HealthEast Clinics allow for the capability and diversity to offer a full range of services for patients of all ages. Services include, family and internal medicine, pediatrics, Osteoporosis Care, Endocrinology, Podiatry, Geriatric Care, Certified Nurse Midwifery, and Osteopathic Care. The staff comprised of board certified physicians, nurse practitioners, midwives, nurses, certified medical assistants, lab and x-ray technicians as well as other staff members are dedicated to providing the high quality compassionate care that makes the HealthEast Clinics the East Metro’s primary care network.
Department Overview:
MAPLEWOOD CLINIC The new multispecialty Maplewood Clinic offers convenient care for children and adults. Our Internal Medicine physicians focus on care for adults with disorders of the glands; heart and lungs; and intestinal and urinary tracts; in addition to care for chronic diseases such as diabetes and arthritis. Our Pediatric department combines primary care, consultation and teaching in their practice. Through a teaching affiliation with the University of Minnesota, the staff keep up to date on new developments in the field of pediatric medicine and share this knowledge with other physicians and medical residents. Each facet of the practice centers on caring for the health of children in the community with special emphasis on wellness and prevention.

Work Hours:
Work Hours/Schedule (For Example: 7:00am-3:30pm or Every other weekend) Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Primary Function & Major Responsibilities Responsible for a variety of technical functions within the coding department that requires critical thinking and problem solving skills for a large multi-specialty group. The specialties include internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, pediatric behavioral medicine, endocrinology, rheumatology, podiatry, pre-natal care, ENT, and allergy. Functions include diagnostic and procedural code assignment using ICD-9-CM and CPT classification systems. Assigns modifiers to codes; codes E/M and charges for physicians and nurse practitioner services. Reviewing charts and providing one-to-one educational feedback to the clinicians. Assigns Evaluation and management (E/M) and CPT procedure codes for clinician services to assure appropriate billing and reimbursement. Assigns diagnostic (ICD-9-CM and/or procedural codes (ICD-9-CM & CPT) on all medical record types at an advanced level to ensure proper reimbursement and accurate data base information. Interacts with clinicians and other clinic/corporate departments to assure compliance and appropriate billing practices. Reviews and works insurance denials. Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
Completion of accredited medical records program (Certified Coding Specialist or Certified Professional Coder) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
One year of experience in coding and/or in a health information department with specific emphasis on E/M coding along with providing physician education.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to use computer systems and other office equipment; PS skills, with emphasis on Windows applications, and ability to use a mouse; Keyboarding/data entry skills; Ability to perform detail-oriented work; Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and disease process; Ability to work independently yet in conjunction with a team; Good time management and organizational skills; Knowledge of medical reimbursement methodologies; Ability to speak in a group setting; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to stand, walk, or sit for an extended period of time. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than whole hand(s) or arm(s). Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal range. Ability to stoop, bend, push or lift 50 pounds. Regular/Temporary
