<br><br><b>Primary Function</b> 
& Major Responsibilities  Sets up shell accounts created from the scheduling system to facilitate the registration process. Responsible for monitoring and keeping up with newly scheduled appointments. Ensures duplicate patients are not created. Sets up accounts under correct patient type. Uses reports to obtain additional information from the scheduling system such as insurance, procedure, procedure and diagnosis codes, etc. Researches and analyzes patient visit history (past and future) to determine when and which accounts to set up.

Responsible for taking incoming customer calls as well as making outgoing customer calls; must be able to prioritize work. Obtains information from patients, caregivers, or family members to register patient accounts, including entry of patient demographics and health insurance information into the HealthEast registration system. Correct entry of insurance information is vital; also responsible for verifying insurance eligibility. Registrar must use various insurance websites. Registrar must be comfortable speaking to patients of all different cultures, including working with an interpreter to register non English speaking patients. Registrar is also responsible for ensuring compliance with HCFA regulations specifically in answering the Medicare Secondary Payer questions accurately. Registrar is also responsible for estimating and collecting patient liability balances for future visits. This includes co-payments from insured patients as well as deposits on self pay accounts.

Responsible for Registration of various scheduled, elective patient visits.
Sets up shell accounts created from the scheduling system to facilitate the registration process.

Verifies insurance payer eligibility by phone or via the Internet.
Adheres to high data quality standards.

Collects patient liability. This includes co-payments and self pay payments.

Answers multiple telephone lines, taking calls from patients, family members,
physicians, other hospital staff, physician offices and other external customers.

Supports the admitting function for Midway Surgery Center.

Communicates appropriate information to others according to established procedures so that day-to-day operations are effectively conducted.

Works shifts as directed, demonstrating flexibility with vacation/ holiday coverage needs of the department.

Demonstrates evidence of participation in Performance Improvement processes.
Assists in new employee training as delegated by Manager.

Demonstrates knowledge of safety-related work behaviors to ensure safe job performance and the maintenance of a safe work environment as an integral part of the quality of patient care services.

Participates in the selection of sources for needed services not provided by the department. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job to ensure appropriate maintenance of all privacy related issues.

Performs all other related duties as requested to meet departmental needs.
<br><br><b>Qualifications</b><br>  Education:<br>
High School Diploma or equivalent.

<br><br>Experience:<br>
Customer service, data entry, and one year of related office experience. Medical terminology preferred.

Knowledge of and ability to use computer systems. Extensive experience with computers, including mouse skills, keyboard functions and internet access. Ability to toggle between multiple applications;

<br><br><b>Qualifications</b><br>  Education:<br>
Must be a Registered Nurse and licensed in the state of Minnesota. Specific knowledge of clinical information systems, medical record coding, outcome tracking, and Quality/Perfomance Improvement required.

Three to five years of previous related experience. Project management experience helpful. Experience with coordinating clinical and outcomes databases; with managing the implementation of multi-site data collection protocols; with using spreadsheet and relational database computer software to analyze data and produce reports; and with developing successful collaborative working relationships with a variety of healthcare professionals and administrators desirable. Knowledge of ?MIDAS? system preferred.
